We all want perfect tomatoes, right? Or at the very least, a good tomato crop where flowers are abundant, pests and diseases are kept in check, and fruits actually ripen before the first frost. I've been growing tomatoes for nearly 20 years every which way: in the ground, in raised beds, in containers, and even indoors. I've killed plenty of seedlings and struggled with blight. So you could say... I know a thing or two about tomatoes. 😆 Which is why I'm excited to share my newly updated post on how to grow the best tomatoes, from the planning phase to the picking stage.
These tips come from my own experiences of growing all kinds of tomatoes in 2 totally different climates: zone 10b and zone 5. From a year-round growing season to a season that's barely 100 days. 😅 I usually average 20 to 30 pounds of tomatoes from each plant, which is pretty good considering the short season (and lack of a greenhouse) limits me to early-maturing varieties. So if I can grow tomatoes in a tricky climate where the days are hot and the nights are cold, you can too! Seasonal TipsP.S. Learn how to grow perfect tomatoes with my 12 tried-and-tested tips. P.P.S. My Ultimate Garden Diary can help you track your tomato crops so you know how they do each year: when they germinate, when they're transplanted, first bloom, first harvest, and how much they produce in a season. |
