You actually touch on more unusual tidbits that encourage me to keep growing and learning."
Even though I moved into my new house a little over a year ago, unpacking is still a work in progress. We moved a lot of our belongings into a 40-foot cargo container when we bought our property, and kept adding to it over the course of four years while we were building. Inevitably, things got shuffled around during our multiple moves and among them were the ammo cans where I stored all my seeds. A few weeks ago I finally pulled out those cans and realized I'd never cleaned them out since we moved to Bend! 😲 (It's been several years.) So I sat on the floor with my kids and we totally WENT AT IT, checking each packet to see if they were still viable, ripping them open and tossing older seeds into a bucket. (These seeds would then get dumped into the big compost pile in our chicken run, on the off chance they might germinate and give our chickens some bonus sprouts.) We did all this because I went nuts ordering new seeds from Peaceful Valley (which were 15% off and BY THE WAY, they've extended the sale through April 6!!) and I needed to organize the 100 new seed packets that had just arrived. I knew I needed a better system for this (because I actually have over 350 packets of seeds) and manually inventorying every packet was quite tedious. I also needed to reorganize my seed storage cans, now that they were fresh and empty. Enter: the spreadsheet. But not just any spreadsheet. One that I can group and filter and display custom views for the types of seeds I have, how much I have left, and what year I bought them—all with a simple click. I created this custom spreadsheet to help me manage all my vegetable, herb, and flower seeds, and it's been a total time-saver (and money-saver) this season!
I really wish I'd done this sooner! P.S. Check out my game-changing seed organization system that I wish I'd created sooner. It's saved me so much time and money this season! P.P.S. Don't miss the final weekend of Peaceful Valley's seed sale—you can still get 15% off all seeds until April 6! (No code needed.) |
