Yes, I said winter—not spring or summer, when most flowers start to bloom. If you tend to write off winter gardens because there's not much going on, maybe this will change your mind: This is just one of a few of my favorite fall-planted bulbs that will actually push up out of the snow and bloom! It's not affected by cold spells or more snow, and it'll come back year after year without you needing to do anything. (Other than dividing the bulbs every 3 to 4 years—but that just means you get more plants... for free!) Now if you're wondering, just what are these flowers that laugh in the face of winter? ❄️ They're known as minor bulbs—because of their small size, and because they're not as popular as bigger bulbs like daffodils and tulips. They're the first bulbs to emerge in late winter to early spring and they bring some much-needed color into the landscape after a dreary season. Depending on how severe the winters are in your area, some minor bulbs may even bloom as early as January! (For me, in my zone 5 microclimate, I've got a variety that tends to bloom in February and it's the most amazing sight.) Seasonal tipsP.S.
