strategies for dealing with weeds (without sprays)

Weeds are the bane of every garden... even if you can eat them.

(Although I do make an exception for claytonia, aka miner's lettuce, which I found in a corner of my front yard this week. That's a lot of salad greens right there, doing their own thing with no water at all and giving us free food!)

Sometimes it can feel like you're growing more weeds than the actual plants you want in your garden. Sometimes you're spending more time than you'd like on your free weekend, battling weeds that pop up in your vegetable beds. And does it seem like for every weed you pull up, 3 more appear in its place?

I wrote this post for you.

It's all about how I manage weeds in my garden (without herbicides), and using the 9 strategies shared in the post, I've been able to get rid of 98% of the weeds in my raised beds, permanently. A few persistent weeds do show up every year, but they don't stick around for long.

And these are the same ways I'm keeping unwanted volunteer plants out of the rest of my yard (though with 1.5 acres, it's a work in progress 😅).

I've done both. And I also have the crazy experience of growing in 2 totally different climates: zone 5 with less than 70 frost-free days in the high desert, and zone 10b on the coast where I was harvesting tomatoes in December (but struggled with powdery mildew in summer). So, I've probably got a solution for you! 😄

P.S. These are the 9 strategies I use to keep weeds out of my garden.
